what if I were an advanced (real) alien

September 9th, 2007 · No Comments

As a kid, I was fascinated by the probability that we would be contacted by an advanced alien race, and suddenly many problems will go away and we will live happily ever after. Looking back, this is not unlike the mentality of winning a lottery.

The more I think about it, however, the more I am convinced that this is never going to happen, even if we have already been observed by many such races. The reason is very simple (and sad), we, human, have not matured enough to be worthy of such largess. We will squander it, and likely bring only trouble to whoever contacts us. What troubles me is that we are not making much progress in that department, I don’t think we are any more sophisticated in handling big problems than our ancestors two thousands years ago.
