the most important part of a scholar is to produce new knowledge, and the quality of such contribution is often judged by where (which journal) an article is published. In every discipline, there are a few so called top journals (or A journals), and getting a hit (publish a paper) there is always something. peer-reviewed journals are normally double blind, which means reviewers do not know who are the authors and authors do not know who are the reviewers, although editor knows both. the system is designed to be efficient and objective, but there are clearly many ways you can game the system. sad …
This system could, and should, be improved. My sense is that the best way to do this is to start a new journal in a discipline.
